Trump's Bozeman rally highlights unpaid costs from past Montana visits

NBC Montana @ August 7, 2024 | "Donald Trump makes a campaign stop in Bozeman Friday night, headlining a rally at Montana State University’s Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. But a visit from the former president comes with a cost. Around the country, reports claim his campaign rarely pays invoices to local government for the increased police presence, security and other costs that come with hosting the event. Some places in Montana are still expecting payment. Back in 2018, Trump visited Montana four times, holding rallies in Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls and Missoula."

-- Added note: The Butler, PA's local rep told the press that the reason the outer-buildings at the Trump rally weren't fully protected was lack of police officers. Likely meaning the lack of department funds, or outside monies, to pay for extra protection, etc. All secret service dollars come from the GOP majority congress. Local revenue from taxes. The Trump campaign could have paid more, or at least paid their past rally bills or additional, now overdue, security & traffic management costs.   Provide via Share / YouTube

NYC Journalist Faces Hate Crime Charge for Allegedly Filming Gaza Protest Action; Police Raid Home

Democracy Now @ August 9, 2024 | "Press freedom groups are raising alarm after New York police arrested and charged videographer Samuel Seligson for allegedly filming pro-Palestinian activists hurling red paint at the homes of top officials of the Brooklyn Museum, part of a campaign by activists demanding the institution divest from Israel. Seligson faces eight counts of criminal mischief with a hate crime enhancement, which is a felony. Police also raided his home twice. Seligson is a well-known local journalist whose work has appeared on major news outlets, and his attorney Leena Widdi says the charges are an attack on constitutionally protected press freedoms. “It is an extremely concerning assault on the First Amendment. The reason why the freedom of press is so strongly protected is because there’s some underlying belief that in order for the public to meaningfully participate in a democracy, they must be actually informed,” Widdi tells Democracy Now!
